Awards & Recognition
National
Member institutions are eligible for national
recognition of faculty, students, and their
campuses. The national Campus Compact features the
following honors.
- Thomas Ehrlich
Faculty Award for Service-Learning

This award recognizes and honors one faculty
member each year for contributing to the
integration of community or public service
into the curriculum and for efforts to
institutionalize service-learning.
An award of $2,000 is granted to a
faculty member working at a member
institution. Ten finalists are also
selected and recognized for their
contributions to the field.
The award is named in honor of Thomas
Ehrlich, past chair of the Campus Compact
executive committee, President Emeritus
of Indiana University, and currently a
senior scholar at Carnegie Foundation
for the Advancement of Teaching.
- Howard R. Swearer
Student Humanitarian Award

This award honors five students for their
outstanding public service. Students are
nominated by their institutions
president. Recipients each receive the
award and $1,500 to strengthen or sustain
the service program of their design or
choice.
Nomination forms are sent to presidents
in December; recipients are notified
in May.
The award is named in honor of Howard
R. Swearer, the fifteenth president of
Brown University and a founder of Campus
Compact.
- Community
College Swearer Award

In recognition of community colleges
special mission and the exemplary work
of their students within a two-year period,
Campus Compact designates at least one Swearer award for a community college
student. All member community college
applicants are eligible for both this
designated award and the other Swearer
awards.
