What is the COS conference?
The 18th Annual Continuums of Service Conference invites leaders from higher education, K-12 education, community-based organizations, government agencies, philanthropic organizations, businesses, and grassroots efforts to convene and discuss strategies to implement our shared leadership and responsibility to rebuild and strengthen communities across the region. Your participation helps build and strengthen the service-learning and civic engagement network in the western region.

Who hosts the conference?
The Continuums of Service Conference is hosted by Washington Campus Compact with support from California Campus Compact, Campus Compact of the Mountain West, Hawaii Pacific Islands Campus Compact, Montana Campus Compact, Oregon Campus Compact and Utah Campus Compact.

Who usually attends the COS conference?
Higher education and K-12 faculty, staff, administrators, students, and community stakeholders involved in service-learning and civic engagement.  We offer sessions ranging in experience and interest levels.

Where will the 18th Annual COS Conference take place?

Conference Rate: $159 (4 days pre/post - First come first serve!)

  • Individual attendees make their own guest room reservations and ask for the Continuums of Service conference rate
  • First night room deposit of $159 will be charged to your credit card when you make a reservation
  • Cancellation must be made 48 hours in advance (if cancellation is made less than 48 hours or you do not show up, you will be charged the first night's room charge.)
  • Please also inform the Ship if you anticipate departing earlier than the date originally given at the time the reservation was made to avoid an early departure fee.
  • Early departures and/or late arrivals will be charged to nightly rate for each night the reserved room is not occupied by the individual, up to and including the entire length of stay.

Make your reservation by Friday, March 20, 2015 to receive the conference room rate. Room reservations made after that date are not guaranteed the conference room rate

When will the 18th Annual COS conference be held?
The 18th Annual COS conference will take place on April 8-10, 2015 (which is a Wednesday through Friday schedule).

How is the conference organized?
We provide a variety of opportunities for interaction, participation, and engagement. There are pre-conference sessions held for longer periods of time which allow participants more insight and opportunity for engagement; concurrent sessions offering participants the opportunity to listen, discuss and collaborate with colleagues; and poster exhibits which visually display diverse service-learning courses, projects, research and program initiatives.

What is the conference dress code?
Business casual.

What is the itinerary?
Please look under “Schedule of Events” for the conference itinerary, as well as a detailed list of sessions and posters (when available)

What materials should I bring?
Materials to take notes - many sessions will provide handouts. Also if you plan on bringing any "smart" devices (i.e. an iPhone/iPad, Android, Blackberry, etc.) be sure to stay connected with us socially on Twitter and Facebook throughout the conference. We'll be feeding live updates and news as the confrence progresses.

How much will it cost to attend?

General registration closes March 23rd, 2015. LATE registration begin March 24th, 2015 and incurs a $50 late fee. Requests for refunds through March 29th, 2015 will receive a full refund, less a $25 processing fee. Due to contractual obligations with the hotel, no refunds are available on/after March 30th, 2014.

What meals are included with the registration fee?
A light reception on Wednesday, April 8th, breakfast and lunch on Thursday, April 9th, and breakfast on Friday, April 10th are included in the conference registration fee. Dinners Wednesday and Thursday are on your own.

I have special dietary needs. Can those be accommodated by the hotel?
Yes. We will make reasonable efforts to accommodate your dietary needs as long as you notify us on your registration form. You will find this under the section “Special Dietary Requests.”

Are there any scholarships available this year?
Dependent on funding, we offer scholarships to participants who demonstrate need and meet specific criteria of the donor. Please continue to check our website

Will I receive a discount if I volunteer?
We do not offer registration discounts for volunteering.

What can volunteers do?
There are many volunteer opportunities at the conference.  If you are interested in volunteering any amount of time, we can use your help! You can volunteer as little or as much time as your conference schedule permits.

Poster Presentations

Are poster boards provided?
Yes, tri-fold poster boards will be provided by The 18th Annual Continuums of Service Conference for its poster presenters. The tri-fold and stands up by itself. Size is 36"x48" open and 36"x24" closed.
