Sustainability and Service Learning: Using Reflective Practice to Deepen Learning
As part of Washington Campus Compact’s “Sustainability and Service-Learning” activities series, this workshop will focus on how, as faculty members, we can extend and deepen student learning through reflective practices. We will meet at Edmonds Community College, where staff and faculty will involve us in service projects - both on-campus and in nearby neighborhoods - that demonstrate sustainable, community-based experiences. During the workshop we will participate in a variety of reflective activities and also meet with students to hear how reflection has impacted their learning. Opportunities to share and discuss strategies for facilitating the kinds of reflection that deepen student learning and development will complement the workshop’s experiential components.
